Out West Arts: Performance at the end of the world

Opera, music, theater, and art in Los Angeles and beyond

Before the Flood

February 05, 2009

Los Angeles Opera has announced that it will reprise its community performance of Benjamin Britten’s Noah’s Flood, first seen in 2007,on this coming March 7th. There will be two performances at 4 and 7 pm and as before tickets are free (with a 1 dollar handling fee per order) and the show will take place at the magnificent Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral across from the Music Center downtown. Tickets are available tomorrow February 6 at 10 AM either online or by phone directly through LA Opera. It was a great show last time and it’s a perfect excuse to see the Cathedral if you haven’t had a chance. If you go, get there early: these events will tend to be at overflow capacity and parking in the Cathedral will likely fill well before the start of the program.

How absolutely cool. I heard it in a small downtown San Francisco church performed by a student group from Canada to commemorate the United Nations' 50th anniversary. It's still one of the greatest performances of anything I've ever been part of, and of course Britten wrote it so the audience is very much a participant.
